This trip report about skiing the black hole is from a couple months ago early on in the spring. We had an amazing winter and the snowpack was still quite healthy. I haven’t gotten a chance until now to post about this trip because I have been so consumed with my newest business venture, Teton Backcountry Rentals. In March, I started a rental delivery service in Jackson, Wyoming. Rentals are starting to book for the summer, and we are definitely making steps in the right direction. I hope I get to ski again this year, but if I don’t it’s because I’m working hard at Teton Backcountry Rentals. Check out our site, and tell your friends!
As the couloir opened it offered route choices, and chokes, but stayed a pretty consistent pitch the entire way up.
The snow was firm, but grippable, with pockets of powder in the shadows for a slashing good time!
Here’s a good picture of Matt approaching the choke! Who told me this guy’s only been skiing a year??
It was a great line, and a great opportunity to see what the north side of Grand Teton National Park has to offer. Much to our enjoyment, we were able to snowboard all the way back to Jackson Lake. We slapped on the skins and slogged across the lake for about 3 miles until we were back at the car. We will definitely be back to that zone!
